As part of the processes of El Guavio Power Plant Environmental Education Program (PEA), we have the management project for organic solid waste generated by the plant's camp located in Mambita, and the centralized collection of usable inorganic solid waste.
To date, the 99 families from Mambita village involved in the project have collected 1,860 kg of usable material and 4,695 kg of organic waste.
The uses given to organic waste in Mambita
Initiatives like this seek to create a civic culture in the proper management, disposal and use of organic waste, as well as the generation of inputs used within other lines of the same program.
For example, in the case of organic waste, there is a new infrastructure called Compostera, located in the camp facilities and inaugurated in October 2019; There, the organic waste generated in the casino is selected and weighed to be disposed of in the composting beds of the Compostera.
Once placed in the beds, the waste is treated by Bioremediation, which enables its decomposition and the generation of organic fertilizer; It is then packed and used in silvopastoral projects or orchards, among others, which the communities in the area are involved in. It is also used in the management of the Pomona nursery, where plant material is germinated for community projects.
In the case of usable waste, it is collected in the urban area of Mambita, house by house. It is then separated, compacted and sold to a local recycler.
The resources collected are delivered to the Central Mambita Action Board, an entity that oversees its collection and marketing through a committee; These resources have been used to purchase a manger, Christmas lights in the park and other activities to improve on the town and the quality of life of its inhabitants.
