This September 9 is World Electric Vehicle Day, and we could not let this date pass as we are a company that faithfully believes that electric mobility is the way to move towards a sustainable and clean future.
We have been promoting this type of mobility for more than 10 years with our product offering and with projects within the company in order for our collaborators to be the first to experience their advantages.
Why is electric mobility day celebrated?
Because it is undeniable that it has countless benefits for people and the environment, and these reasons make us want to promote it:
- Electric vehicles do not emit polluting gases during their manufacture or start-up. They do not generate noise pollution either, since their vibration and heat levels are minimal.
- Engine performance is better than that of a combustion engine.
- More efficient maintenance since its recharge is more economical and friendly to the environment by not using fuel.
- Similarly, revisions are also cheaper as they do not involve oils, fluids or filters.
- Since 2019, electric vehicles in Colombia have privileges such as maximum 1% tax of the vehicle’s commercial value, a discount in the payment of the electromechanical inspection certificate process, no circulation restrictions (peak and plate, car-free day, etc.) and a minimum 2% provision of the total parking spots in shopping centers and public entities.
- Energy efficiency close to 90% compared to 38% of an average diesel engine.
- Improve people's quality of life, as CO2 emissions of particle matter are reduced, as well as noise pollution.
- They contribute in the long term, with the reduction of respiratory, visual and cardiovascular diseases that cause around 1,000 deaths annually.
Our sustainable transportation projects include electric taxis across the country, the launch of the first 100% electric articulated bus and the construction of the first public electric station, located in Unicentro shopping center.
At the level of our workers, in 2011 we created the "e-bike to work" program so that they can commute between home and work by electric bicycle, but they also have the "Movernos" program that encourages workers to use conventional and electric bicycles, skateboards, carpooling and walking.
2020 projects to reduce the carbon footprint
- Adaptation of yards and the installation of more than 222 chargers for the new electric fleet of 477 SITP buses.
- Installation of 30 new public charging points, in addition to the 57 that currently exist in different sectors of the city, such as the Unicentro electroline station, Grupo Exito headquarters, the Salitre bowling alley, the Tercer Milenio Park, parking lots (El Lago and Santa Bárbara), among others.
- Operation of the 38 electric taxi-charging points that are part of the pilot program in Bogotá.
- Promoting the installation of a greater number of private charging points in homes and businesses, which will be added to the more than 350 already installed by the Company.
- And the 5% increase in the number of workers at Enel companies in Colombia who participate in various programs that encourage sustainable mobility such as “E-bike to work” and “Movernos”.
Let's celebrate World Electric Vehicle Day and join in this great movement for the world and the citizens of tomorrow.
