Since the beginning of humanity, innovation has been present as a fundamental element for transformation, and thanks to great innovators, today we can enjoy the world as we know it. Electricity is one of those important inventions, and has become an essential resource for our lives, as well as a key element for the development of communities.
Camilo Herrera understood this and through innovation has managed to bring light to hard to reach places in our country, through the use of solar panels. With this same purpose, in our company we have been looking for new ways to bring energy to populations that still lack electric service. This led to our ‘Cundinamarca 100%’ project, which takes on the challenge of bringing light to every home in the department, using new technologies.
THE SUN THAT LIGHTENS HOMES
For Camilo, in order to innovate all you need is to identify with the problems of others, as this makes it easier to find solutions. That's why, realizing that many people in the country still do not have electricity in their homes, and therefore limiting the ability to carry out daily activities, he decided to create the "One Liter of Light" foundation in Colombia, which through a concept as simple as using soda bottles filled with water and chlorine installed on home roofs, sunlight manages to enter them as if a 60w bulb was placed, all thanks to the refractory effect of the light.
In spite of how wonderful this idea was, it only worked during the day, and knowing how necessary light is once the sun goes down, a new challenge arose for Camilo ... how to illuminate the homes also during the night. He set to design a light pole with recycled materials, incorporating solar technology through the use of solar micro panels and storage batteries. So once the sun hides, the panel stops receiving charge and the luminaire in the bottle of gas goes on, managing to give off light for approximately 10 continuous hours. This innovation offers families the possibility to have lighted housing, and to perform simple activities such as studying, cooking and even staying awake a few hours more during the night.
NEW TECHNOLOGIES FOR WELLBEING
Just as Camilo is an innovator who set for himself the goal of changing realities, we at Enel-Codensa have also set out to put innovation at the service of energy in order to bring progress and development to the heart of our country, making energy accessible to more people, reaching areas never before explored. With Cundinamarca 100%, so far we have benefited nearly 1,450 families, making use of innovative technologies such as drones, which allow us to build power grids quickly and safely; and through the installation of solar panels, in places where, due to their terrain conditions and access difficulties, it is impossible to connect them to the network in a traditional way.
In this way, we are delivering welfare and improving the living conditions of people in our country, and we will continue to do so for the next 5 years, in which we will be delivering electricity to more than 8 thousand families who do not yet have it.
MORNING LIGHT
Providing communities with opportunities to grow is Camilo’s raison d’être, whose solutions are aimed at bringing benefits to as many people as possible.
