When we think of a city, one of the first things we pay attention to is the transport and the vehicles that transit its streets, from private to mass public ones, since for all of us who live in cities, mobility impacts our quality of life on a daily basis, in economic, social, health and environmental terms.
Based on the need to improve the way in which people get around every day, along with an important environmental component, it has become essential to encourage the implementation of electric mobility in large urban centers, as is the case of Bogota, since this type of mobility is a mechanism to reduce CO2 emissions and improve air quality.
Thus, there is an increasing effort to facilitate and promote the use of different mobility alternatives such as electric bicycles, which nowadays have become an excellent option to get around the city, due to their many benefits, including:
- They make it possible to reach a destination more quickly. At peak hours, a regular vehicle reaches 15 km/h, whereas with an electric bike you can reach a speed of 25 km/h.
- They improve your physical condition, since you can pedal it like a traditional bicycle.
- Electric do not emit polluting gases, therefore they do not pollute the environment.
- Maintenance is much cheaper than for a regular vehicle.
Additionally, if the electric bicycle is pedal-assisted, is less than 350 watts of power, the engine deactivates itself at 25 km/h and weighs less than 35 kg, it can be ridden without any restriction on the more than 400 km of bicycle lanes [ciclovías] in our city.
