Scholarship for academic excellence

Competing in the current work world has become increasingly difficult for young people who begin to build their future. That is why it is almost imperative for them to obtain a university degree, which although it is not a guarantee of finding a job that meets their expectations, greatly increases their chances of achieving this, taking into account the level of competitiveness in the globalized world of this century.

One of the variables that has the greatest weight in the decision to pursue a university career is definitely the economic aspect, where not only the cost of tuition must be considered, but also the expenses associated with studying at a university for five years or more, such as food, transport, materials, among others.

NEWS THAT CHANGE LIVES

In 2005, Angela Corso, daughter of Mesias Corso (Electrical Supervisor who joined Enel - Emgesa in 1984) placed fourth in the ICFES tests (State tests for higher education). Her father, feeling proud of her great achievement, approached the Human Resources area of the company in search of financial assistance for Angela, who was close to beginning her studies.

At the end of 2007, at under 20 years of age, she was in her fourth semester of Finance and International Trade and Economics at a Colombian university; however, because of her good grades and after a contest, she had been accepted at the University of Toulouse (France) as part of an international agreement between the two universities. Her father, again decided to go to the company to request financial support, and thus be able to fulfill his daughter’s dream.

While Angela readied the suitcases for her trip to the old continent, without knowing exactly how she would finance her studies and stay abroad, her father returned home, after the usual working day, with some great news: "Dear, the company will help us pay for your college tuition in France." From that moment, Angela's future career took a turn toward success.

Based on this experience in which we were able to support and promote the academic studies of a young talent such as Angela Corso, who is now a professional in Finance and International Trade and Economics (with double degree), and is Head of Internal Auditing at our company after she joined in 2011 to carry out her professional internship, we understood the importance of supporting young people as a way to contribute to the progress and development of our country. Since 2007, we have implemented the "Excellence Scholarship Plan", created for the children of our employees, in which each year the company awards a scholarship to the two youths with the best results in the Saber 11 state tests, allowing them to pursue their higher education, covering all program enrolment expenses provided they show excellent performance, maintaining a minimum semester grade average.

In the 11 years that the program has been implemented, the company has awarded the excellence scholarship to 22 sons and daughters of workers, allowing them to study at the university of their choice, and achieving their dream of a better future for themselves and their families.
