Over the years, as companies of the Enel Group in Colombia we have taken a proactive stance in the fight against corruption and crime in all our processes. Reinforcing values such as trust, transparency and responsibility in our organizational culture is fundamental to guaranteeing the fulfillment of our commitments acquired as we move forward, not only with the industry, but also with our clients, and with the country.
STRENGTHENING TRANSPARENT BEHAVIOR
In order to promote trust and anti-corruption practices within and outside the organization, Enel - Codensa and Enel - Emgesa have a robust system of law enforcement and prevention of fraud, corruption and other crime related risks, which has allowed us to strengthen the commitment with ethics and transparency both internally and externally.
Through our Zero Tolerance with Corruption Plan we incorporate the best behaviors to delineate our daily operation. Policies associated with charitable contributions, gifts, hospitality and expenses, conflict of interest, among others are part of this program. All these measures are transversal to the organization, and at the same time they are transferred to our suppliers, to ensure not only that we have internal control over corruption issues, but also that the companies we partner with or those we are linked to in some way comply with and practice these policies in the same way we do.
Likewise, in each of the areas of the company we integrate internal anti-corruption control systems, which cover periodic audits, through which we minimize risk in criminal matters. By including these controls in our processes, we validate the risks, obtain information and conceptualize the situations that could lead to some type of threat, in order to implement corrective measures and improvements in our transparency and risk management policies.
COMMITTED TO BUILDING A CULTURE OF TRANSPARENCY
Making our workers adhere to our vision of zero tolerance with corruption is one of our biggest goals, as in doing so we can ensure that our action is effectively transparent. In this sense, we carry out a communication and training program, in which we develop internal outreach campaigns that include communications, videos and multiple activities to promote good practices and inform our policies. In addition, we implement an annual training plan aimed at all those who are part of the companies, and especially the areas that involve the greatest risks. Through this training plan, our employees receive induction, participate in workshops and ongoing training on ethical issues, crime management and anti-corruption practices.
Additionally, we train our workers on what they can do if they identify a crime or behavior that departs from our best practices. For this we have a tool called the ethical channel, which allows both our workers and any third party to report these actions confidentially, and in this way everyone can contribute to the consolidation of our culture of transparency within the organization.
PROMOTING THE BEST PRACTICES TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS
In order to support the actions in this field that take place outside our organization, this year we voluntarily joined the Active Anti-Corruption Companies (EAA) initiative by the Transparency Office of the Presidency of the Republic, in which private sector companies are registered to be evaluated on the existence and implementation of mechanisms for the prevention and mitigation of corruption risks within their organizations.
For six months, our companies were assessed in ten categories related to management of corruption risks, internal control and accounting records, implementation of the anti-corruption program in business relations, review and monitoring of the anti-corruption program, policies and prevention procedures in risk areas, among other aspects. As a result of this process, Enel - Codensa and Enel - Emgesa exceeded the requirements established to be considered benchmark companies in the country regarding anti-corruption practices and activities related to compliance and business ethics. They were also recognized by the Transparency Office of the Presidency of the Republic as one of the six large companies in the country that have entered the EAA registry with the highest international standards in compliance with corruption prevention programs.
“Receiving this recognition is very satisfying because it is the result of how we have worked to generate an ethical culture within the company and to promote the value of trust as Enel Group companies in Colombia. As referents in the country in the fulfillment of anti-corruption programs, we are committed to continue working with transparency, ethics and trust”
