In line with Enel Group’s global vision, in our companies Enel - Codensa and Enel - Emgesa, we are committed to contributing to the achievement of the objectives set by the UN Assembly in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially those related to access to electricity, mitigation of climate change, socio-economic development and education. Throughout the last 20 years, we have been implementing various programs and projects that have allowed us to promote the social and economic development of communities, with an important emphasis on education as the main piece in the process of transforming their reality.
PROMOTING OPPORTUNITIES TO ENHANCE THE FUTURE
In 2005, Enel - Codensa and Enel - Emgesa joined forces with the purpose of promoting social management initiatives, and at the same time with the aim of generating a greater impact in terms of social transformation and sustainability. This is how the Enel Colombia Foundation was born, which through dialogue with the communities has been able to identify their needs, in order to create programs aimed at providing real solutions to their current problems.
Based on this premise, we developed a series of initiatives framed under the line "Support to local communities", where education is the epicenter. These programs have benefited more than 18 thousand children, adolescents, young people and teachers, and are oriented toward offering quality education, through the improvement of educational infrastructure, innovation and adaptation of educational models, to contribute to the development of the capacities of children and teachers, while training students in soft skills and greater competencies for life.
Within these initiatives we find:
Connect with education - more than 12,013 people have benefited from this project, which has supported the process of improving basic knowledge skills in teachers and students in rural areas of the department of Cundinamarca.
Educating with Energy - since 2013 this project has focused on strengthening middle school youth of public educational institutions of Bogotá in socio-emotional skills and in their vocational orientation, offering them tools for the definition of their life plan, and empowerment of their capabilities. In the last year, 3,200 high school students and 348 teachers have benefited.
Good Energy for your School - this program was launched in 2014 seeking to improve the infrastructure of educational institutions in the region. Today more than 4,000 children have benefited from this project. Our workers are a key element in these sessions, as they provide voluntary labor, and support the reconstruction of the schools with painting, cleaning and adaptation of the electrical infrastructure to reduce electrical risk.
Plan Semilla - with this project we promote the technical training in the installation and maintenance of electrical networks of vulnerable young people of Cundinamarca, in order to offer them an opportunity for training and insertion in the working world. Since 2014, 160 young people from the areas of Villeta and Gualivá in the department of Cundinamarca, and 176 in Bogotá have benefited.
Continuing to contribute to the education of our children and youth motivates us so that they can achieve better levels of social welfare and economic growth, and raise their living conditions. Achieving the progress and progress of the communities, is the way to build a better country.
