For some years now, smart cities have begun to be talked about in the world. Technology has changed the way we live and this transformation does not stop.
Currently not only people, but we as a company, must be attentive and evolve hand in hand with these changes. That is why in Enel - Codensa, we have understood that technology is an essential part to move towards the construction of an intelligent city.
Smart Cities are characterized by applying Information and Communication Technologies, as a solution to guarantee the quality of life of people, optimizing fundamental processes for their development, care and preservation of the environment and mobility.
Currently, in our country, projects are being developed to convert our cities into smart spaces.
OUR CHALLENGE: BOGOTA, AN SMART CITY
One of our purposes at Enel - Codensa has been to support and be pioneers in the use of technology to put it at the service of our customers. Today we are building an intelligent energy system, which will allow us to modernize the Bogotá and Cundinamarca networks with about 3,800 telecontrolled DEVICES, in order to reduce response times when solving system failures.
With this telecontrol technology not only network issues are detected faster, but when knowing exactly the affected sections, there are fewer customers that are affected, since the power supply is not interrupted in sections where It is not necessary.
Also, during 2016, we started the implementation of the smart metering system in Bogotá and Cundinamarca with the Intelligent Measurement project, which includes the change of 40,000 meters installed free of charge, to help our users to use the energy in the best way and guide life towards sustainability. In addition, this technology allows us to analyze, diagnose, measure and distribute household energy consumption in a more effective and easier way.
THE INNOVATION THAT GIVES WAY TO THE CITIES OF THE FUTURE
Additionally, we have incorporated electric mobility into urban mass transport in Bogotá, through initiatives such as support for the launch of the first 100% electric articulated bus, the implementation of the largest electric taxi fleet in Latin America, and the installation of 6 charging points for electric vehicles.
Added to this, we bet on renewable energy through the installation of solar panels. So far, we have installed more than 300 solar panels in the city, capable of covering the annual demand of approximately 753 homes. By leveraging these technologies, we have managed to bring the energy service to remote areas that do not yet have access to electricity. Cundinamarca 100% is a program that has allowed us to serve more than 400 families using renewable energy to make this possible.
With these actions we have been consolidating great steps in innovation to build smart cities, which allow us to make Colombia a more competitive country.
In Enel - Codensa we have been transforming lives through energy for 20 years.
