In order to meet and satisfy the energy demand of industrial customers settled in the municipalities of Tocancipá, Gachancipá, Sopó and Briceño, as well as commercial and residential ones, we built the Gran Sabana substation; the first of a robust Enel Colombia strengthening plan, which is part of the capacity expansion program for the north of Cundinamarca.
The substation, which complies with the highest international standards, will reinforce the electrical infrastructure in the region, guaranteeing the development and growth of the industry and commerce of municipalities that, in recent years, have become key points in the industrial development of the country’s central region. Looking to the future, it is estimated that the capacity of Gran Sabana may increase up to 200 MVA.
At Enel Colombia we bet on a project that, without a doubt, will continue to improve service quality indicators and contribute to the stability and reliability of the electric system in Bogota and Cundinamarca.
Discover the benefits offered by the Gran Sabana Substation to strengthen the energy system of the northern area of Bogota:
- We improved the reliability of the system and the operation of the medium voltage circuits.
- We will provide substitutions for possible faults with the circuits of the Termozipa, El Sol, Nelson Alonso, Tocancipá and Sopó substations.
- It will meet the growth of the energy demand of industrial customers in the main municipalities of the region with its increased power supply of 80 MVA.
During the construction stage, around 130 people participated, among them engineers, electrical specialists and logistics personnel. The substation will be completely automated and remote controlled, a factor that allows a better response in the operation when a contingency occurs, both in the circuits it feeds and in the substation itself.
Fauna and Flora
The construction of Gran Sabana involved the development of an environmental management plan to guarantee the care and conservation of the fauna and flora of the area. During this stage:
